Exeter Students Display Artwork at the Berks Community Foundation

Artwork by talented students of all ages in the Exeter Township School District is now on public display at Berks County Community Foundation. The exhibit opened on Sunday with a reception for families, friends, and teachers.

The exhibit is part of an ongoing series showcasing artwork by students from across Berks County. Previous exhibits featured artwork by students from the Boyertown, Conrad Weiser, Governor Mifflin, Kutztown, Muhlenberg, Reading, Tulpehocken, Wilson, and Wyomissing school districts, as well as students from area parochial schools and students who volunteer for VOiCEup Berks.

Timothy Dewalt, Chair of Visual Arts for Exeter Township School District says he is proud to be able to partner with the Community Foundation. “We have approximately 125 pieces on display for the next three months, kindergarten through 12th grade” said Dewalt during the reception.

Quinne Ruppert, 3rd grade student at Owatin Creek Elementary School, used chalk to draw a flower. “I drew it first, then I filled it in with chalk, then I rubbed it in, then I did more details, then added shadows.”

The exhibits, which feature work in varying media, are a way for the community to support student artists and schools’ art curricula. The eventual goal of the Community Foundation’s exhibit series is to showcase artwork from students representing all schools in Berks County.

“It’s great seeing the kids when they take something the whole way through to completion” said John White, Exeter Township Senior High Art Teacher.

“Art uses the other side of the brain, and it take a lot of perseverance to take a task and finish it off the whole way through. When you see students do that, you’re really proud that you were involved in them growing”

The free exhibit is located at the Berks County Community Foundation, 237 Court Street, and is open to visitors Monday to Friday from 9-4pm, now through April 24th.
