United Way and FamilyWize Partnership Helps Keep Berks Countians Healthier

Local residents have saved $3 million on prescription medications through a partnership with FamilyWize, the United Way of Berks County recently announced.

FamilyWize is a national organization focused on improving the health of individuals, families and communities. Through this partnership, the United Way has helped promote the free, easy to use FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card, which can be used by anyone: uninsured, insured, and even people with Medicaid or Medicare.

“We know these are challenging times for many individuals and families, and people should never have to choose between putting food on the table or taking their
prescription medication,” said Tammy White, president of United Way of Berks County.

“We’re pleased to partner with FamilyWize; this program has helped more than 23,600 Berks Countians experience significant savings during the past 15 years.”

United Way and FamilyWize also announced free flu vaccines, now available to anyone 18 and older who is uninsured and unable to afford the vaccine by calling 211 and requesting a voucher.

Qualified individuals can use the voucher to receive a vaccination at Walgreens pharmacy, who is supporting FamilyWize with this initiative. Vaccines are subject to availability.

“Our work with FamilyWize reinforces our commitment to the health and well-being of our community,” added White.
