As part of the City of Reading’s Bicenterquasquigenary observances of Reading’s 275th birthday, the Mid Atlantic Air Museum’s WWII Air Show will once again run a military convoy from the Reading Regional Airport to Penn Square on Friday June 2, 2023. The event last took place in 2019.
The observances will run from 11:30am to 1:30pm in the 500 block of Penn Street with the convoy arriving at noon. Live entertainment by jazz quintet The Snack Club begins at 11:30, and food vendors will be on site.
A short program with WWII weekend organizers and elected officials observing Reading’s contributions to Victory in WWII begins at 12:10pm.
The convoy will come into the city via Schuylkill Avenue, to Walnut Street, to North 11th Street to Penn Street ending in Penn Square and will feature living history participants in period uniforms and 80 restored WWII military vehicles.
The vehicles will park on the 500 block of Penn Street and onlookers will be able to inspect the WWII period equipment and talk to the participants. WWII Air Show aircraft will fly over Penn Square during the activities as well.
“We’re thrilled to return to Penn Square in downtown Reading as part of the WWII Air Show at the Reading Regional Airport. This kickoff event is free and open to the public and we look forward to continuing the tradition in downtown Reading” says Jim Swope WWII Air Show Founder and Event Coordinator.
The annual WWII Air Show runs at the Reading Regional Airport Friday June 2, Saturday June 3, and Sunday June 4th and features flying and static demonstrations of the major types of U.S. WWII bomber and fighter aircraft. Tickets to the Air Show are available at the show gates, on-line MAAM.org.
