Pennsylvania State Police in Hamburg arrested a juvenile male and his mother after a large gathering of off-road vehicles obstructed traffic on Old Route 22 at Wolf Creek Road Saturday afternoon.
According to state police, on September 27 around 2:00 p.m., troopers observed a group of approximately 1,000 to 2,000 motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, mopeds, and other off-road vehicles traveling eastbound on Old Route 22 in Berks County. The group came to a stop at the intersection of Old Route 22 and Wolf Creek Road, blocking traffic and preventing motorists from passing through.
Police said participants, including the juvenile later taken into custody, were seen revving engines, spinning tires, and performing burnouts in the roadway, creating hazardous conditions and excessive noise.
Troopers attempted to disperse the crowd. While most individuals left, officers observed one male on a black motorcycle attempting to restart it. He was taken into custody and identified as a 16-year-old juvenile from Grantville.
The teen was charged with Risking Catastrophe (felony 3), Obstructing Highways and Other Public Passages (misdemeanor 3), and several summary traffic violations.
Troopers also arrested the juvenile’s mother, identified as 33-year-old Lynette Ortiz Garcia of Harrisburg, on a charge of Corruption of Minors. Her charges were filed through district court 23-3-07.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
