About Berks Weekly
Berks Weekly is an independent digital news outlet covering the people, places, and issues that shape life in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Created to fill a growing need in the community for consistent, reliable local journalism, Berks Weekly delivers breaking news, community stories, and public service information with a focus on accuracy, accessibility, and hometown connection.
Why It Matters
Berks Weekly is more than just a local news site—it’s a platform built to inform, connect, and reflect the community we live in. From breaking news to neighborhood features and public service updates, our goal is to keep residents aware of what’s happening close to home. We believe that when people are informed, they’re more likely to engage, support, and strengthen the communities around them.
In a time when trusted local coverage is harder to find, Berks Weekly exists to fill that gap with reporting that’s consistent, independent, and rooted in the region. We share the stories that matter—stories that highlight everyday people, important decisions, and overlooked moments shaping life in Berks County. It’s local journalism with purpose, built for the people who live here.
About Me
I’m Jason Hugg, founder and editor of Berks Weekly. My path began eight years ago with Reading Magazine, where I focused on telling the stories often overlooked in our community. Berks Weekly grew from that foundation to meet the need for consistent, accessible local news. With a background in journalism, photography, and digital media, I built the platform to deliver timely updates and meaningful stories. Today, I handle everything from reporting and editing to design and app development—because local news should be responsive, reliable, and rooted in the community it serves.
By the Numbers
Berks Weekly has grown over the past 5 years into a trusted source for local news, public information, and community stories across Berks County. Here’s a quick look at our reach and the impact we’re making.
