Berks Sinfonietta will present “Conversations in C: The Triple Concerto” on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, with a program featuring Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and performances by three internationally recognized soloists. Buy tickets.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and feature violinist Grace Park, cellist Noémie Raymond and pianist Zhenni Li-Cohen performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C Major.
The Triple Concerto is one of Beethoven’s less frequently performed concertos and is written for violin, cello and piano as solo instruments alongside the orchestra. The work creates an ongoing musical exchange among the three soloists, a concept that inspired the concert’s “Conversations in C” title.
The evening’s program will focus on the expressive and collaborative possibilities of works connected through the key of C while bringing together music from different composers and periods.
In addition to Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, Berks Sinfonietta will perform Leopold Koželuch’s Sinfonia in C Major and Swedish composer Elfrida Andrée’s Andante quasi recitativo for string orchestra.
Koželuch was a composer, pianist and teacher who achieved prominence in Vienna during the late 18th century. He succeeded Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as Hofmusik Compositor, or court composer, in Vienna in 1792.
Andrée was a Swedish composer and performer whose career broke a number of barriers for women in music. Her compositions have received renewed attention in more recent years.
Before the main concert, audiences will also hear a pre-concert performance by the Berks Camerata, a student string quartet highlighting young chamber musicians from the area.
The quartet will perform the first and fourth movements of Antonín Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, commonly known as the “American” quartet. The program will also include the first movement of Beethoven’s String Quartet in C Major and the second movement of Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major.
According to Berks Sinfonietta, including the student ensemble is part of the organization’s effort to provide opportunities for developing musicians while connecting young artists with audiences in the community.
Berks Sinfonietta is a professional chamber orchestra serving Berks County through performances, educational outreach and community programming. The organization’s concerts regularly combine established classical works with lesser-known compositions and guest artists.
