Ocean State Job Lot, the Northeast’s premier discount retail chain with 147 stores, recently purchased Shillington Plaza located at 1 Parkside Avenue from Mark Shillington L.P., and will open its eighth store in the state within the former Kmart space this summer.
OSJL purchased 145,601 sq. feet within Shillington Plaza which also includes a Dollar Tree, a Grocery Outlet and additional tenants.
The former Kmart location, which has been vacant since 2019, is 92,177 sq. feet. OSJL will occupy 46,836 sq. feet, offering customers a big, bright shopping experience, restoring vibrancy to this previously vacant retail location, and creating new jobs in the community.
OSJL also will be making improvements to the shopping center and will work to lease out the remaining space of the former Kmart, as well as a few small, current vacancies within the plaza.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have been committed to continued expansion throughout the Northeast, and we look forward to opening our doors to the Reading and Shillington communities this summer.”
OSJL will be hiring for approximately 50 positions, including store leadership, supervisory, full-time, and part-time positions.
