The Berks County District Attorney’s Office have charged a man from Mt. Penn who they say traveled to the City of Reading with intent to sell drugs.
According to investigators, in May of 2022, criminal investigators from the City of Reading Police Department Vice Unit, identified 31 year-old Jonathan Raul Smith as a “street level” dealer who was selling cocaine within the City of Reading.
During the investigation, officers determined that although Smith was selling his product within the City of Reading, he was living and storing the illegal drugs at a residence in the 200 block of Endlich Avenue in Mt. Penn.
Subsequently, in a joint effort, investigators from the Reading Police Department teamed-up with the Central Berks Police Department and Berks County Detectives.
On June 9, 2022, law enforcement from City of Reading Police Department, Central Berks Police Department and Berks County Drug Task Force, served a search warrant on the residence on Endlich Avenue.
Once inside the residence, police say they located Smith and detained him without incident, with a search of the residence revealing: Approximately 881 grams of suspected bulk methamphetamine, 11 grams of suspected “crack” cocaine, approximately 13 grams of suspected “powder” cocaine, 84 bags of suspected crack cocaine, 8 bags of suspected powder cocaine, 6 MDMA (ecstasy) pills, approximately $8,489 in United States currency believed to proceeds from illegal drug sales and paraphernalia including scale and packaging material.
Police say the total street value of the illegal drugs was estimated to be more than $47,000.
Smith was charged with Possession with the intent to deliver (methamphetamine & cocaine), Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine & cocaine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Smith was transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center for arraignment.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation. Jonathan Raul Smith is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
