Berks Sinfonietta will spotlight two local student musicians during its annual Scholarship Competition Concert on Saturday, Aug. 22, in Wyomissing, following a fundraiser at Judy’s on Cherry in Reading earlier in the week.

The concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, will feature scholarship recipients Joshua Griffith and Grace Campling performing alongside Berks Sinfonietta.

Griffith will perform the first movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, while Campling will perform the first two movements of Serge Koussevitzky’s Concerto for Double Bass. Each student will receive a $500 scholarship in recognition of their achievement.

This year’s scholarship awards and performances are being supported by Customers Bank and the Reading Musical Foundation.

Ahead of the concert, Judy’s on Cherry will host “Pasta with a Performance” from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at 30 S. Fourth St. in Reading.

Held during the restaurant’s Chef’s Feature Pasta night, the fundraiser will include performances by Campling on double bass and Jillian Crotty on French horn. Ten percent of proceeds from the evening will be donated to Berks Sinfonietta’s 2027 scholarship fund. Reservations are highly recommended.

“We are absolutely thrilled to host ‘Pasta With A Performance’ in support of Berks Sinfonietta’s 2027 scholarship fund,” said Karlee, general manager of Judy’s on Cherry and The Speckled Hen. “The arts are a vital piece of education that build discipline, empathy, and community connection.”

Karlee said the event combines food and music while helping local students continue their musical pursuits.

“We want to do our part to give back to the students in our local communities, and by combining great food with incredible music, we aim to increase the amount of money in next year’s scholarship fund so these local students can continue to pursue their musical journeys,” Karlee said.

The Aug. 22 concert, titled “Brahms 1 and Scholarship Competition Winners,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing.
