Did you know you can help kids in your community become better readers in just one hour a week?
United Way’s Star Readers program is currently recruiting volunteer tutors to help second grade students improve their reading skills. Reading proficiency at this age is an important factor in a student’s future success, and we need your help! No experience is necessary, and training is provided.
One long-time volunteer has this to say about her time as a tutor: “I’ve never had any experience ‘teaching’ or ‘tutoring’ but I knew how to read, and I want all children to understand the joy that reading can give them. The help from the United Way team in regard to training and supplies is so helpful that you really don’t need an education background to help.
Through the years I’ve worked with such great kids. I can say with confidence that thanks to this program and the amazing teachers they work with daily, each child gained confidence in their own abilities to read and showed improvement in their reading skills.”
Join us and volunteer today! Programming takes place at elementary schools throughout Berks County, and schedules vary by school. Clearances are required.
