Berks Commissioner Michael Rivera Tests Positive for COVID-19

Commissioner Michael Rivera has confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19. Rivera issued the following statement Tuesday:

“Last week, after not feeling well for several days, I tested positive for COVID-19. At present I am doing well, and my symptoms have been under control. My family and I are self-quarantining and I have been working from home. At this point no other family member is experiencing symptoms” said Rivera.

“I know many of us are growing tired of wearing masks and social distancing (especially now in summer with this beautiful weather), as well as the constant need to clean and sanitize. However, until there are effective treatments and a vaccine available broadly, we must continue these precautions because we know they make a real difference. If not for yourself, do it for your parents, your neighbors and those with underlying medical conditions.”

Rivera did not release how contracted COVID-19.

Last Monday, August 10th, Rivera was absent from a county press conference held outside of the Berks County Services Center. Scheduled to attend in person, Commissioner Leinbach stepped up to the microphone saying “Commissioner Rivera wanted to be here, he had an emergency come up, and is not able to join us”.
