Gipprich Jewelers, Berks County’s oldest family-owned jeweler, is proudly celebrating 80 years in business — a milestone that shines as bright as the jewelry they’ve sold since 1945.
Founded by Walter J. Gipprich during the hard economic times of the 1940s, Gipprich Jewelers began as a small hometown shop built on one simple promise: to treat every customer like family. Over the decades, that promise has become the foundation of a business that has not only endured, but thrived through three generations of dedication and craftsmanship.
Walter and his wife, Patricia, raised 12 children in Shillington — a community that became the cornerstone of their family’s story. Today, siblings Richard and Amy Gipprich proudly carry that legacy forward as third-generation owners, continuing their father’s vision with the same focus on customer service, integrity, and community spirit that began 80 years ago.

“Gipprich Jewelers has always been about more than just jewelry,” says co-owner Amy Gipprich. “It’s about connection — with our customers, with our community, and with the generations of families who continue to trust us with their most meaningful moments.”
To honor their 80th year in business, Gipprich Jewelers will donate all proceeds from watch battery sales between November 15th and December 15th to the Greater Mifflin Food Pantry — a special tribute to the neighborhood that helped shape the Gipprich family as they raised their children.
Located on Lancaster Avenue in Shillington, just blocks from Museum Road, Gipprich Jewelers continues to blend old-world craftsmanship with modern expertise. With a team that includes four goldsmiths, a gemologist, and an experienced sales and service staff— the store offers everything from custom designs and engagement rings to jewelry repair and appraisals.
“Eighty years is an incredible milestone,” adds co-owner Richard Gipprich. “We’re proud to still be here, serving our neighbors and continuing the tradition our parents started — one that’s built on trust, care, and craftsmanship.”
As Gipprich Jewelers looks ahead to the next generation, one thing remains clear: their roots in the Shillington community run deep, and their commitment to serving it shines brighter than ever.
