The South Heidelberg Police Department has begun the first phase of its new High-Visibility Traffic Enforcement Initiative, focusing on speeding concerns along Huntzinger Road in Wernersville.
Police said the initiative officially commenced Tuesday, December 8, as part of a broader effort to improve traffic safety, deter reckless driving, and reduce motor vehicle crashes within the department’s jurisdiction. The initial enforcement phase was overseen by Corporal Oxenford, who served as officer in charge.
According to police, officers have responded to several recent crashes in the 100 block of Huntzinger Road, where vehicles traveling above the posted speed limit were identified as a contributing factor in some incidents. In response, the department deployed a speed trailer in the area to collect traffic data.
Based on information gathered from the speed trailer, the South Heidelberg Police Department, in coordination with the Pennsylvania State Police, conducted a speed enforcement detail on December 10 in the same section of roadway.
During the enforcement effort, officers issued three warnings for vehicles exceeding the posted 30 mph speed limit. Five speeding citations were also issued, with the highest recorded speed being 52 mph in the 30 mph zone. In addition, one citation was issued for driving without a valid license, and one individual was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Police said they will continue monitoring speeding on Huntzinger Road and throughout the community as the enforcement initiative moves forward. The department stated the goal of the ongoing effort is to improve roadway safety for all residents and motorists.
