The South Heidelberg Police Department reported the results of several High-Visibility Traffic Enforcement initiatives conducted between December 19, 2025, and January 4, 2026, as part of an ongoing effort to improve roadway safety and deter dangerous driving behaviors across its jurisdictions.
According to the South Heidelberg Police Department, officers focused enforcement efforts on locations identified as having higher rates of traffic incidents. The department said the initiative is a core component of its broader traffic safety strategy for 2026, aimed at reducing motor vehicle crashes and encouraging safer driving habits.
One of the first details took place in Robesonia Borough on the evening of December 19 and into the early morning hours of December 20, when officers conducted a DUI roving patrol along Penn Avenue. The impaired driving enforcement detail was funded through a grant from the Highway Safety Network, with additional support from PennDOT. Police reported 11 vehicle stops during the operation, resulting in five written warnings and 10 citations. No impaired drivers were identified during the patrol.
Additional high-visibility enforcement was carried out on New Year’s Eve in Wernersville Borough. Police reported multiple traffic watches at intersections along Penn Avenue, Thomas Drive, Lincoln Drive, and Werner Street. These efforts resulted in several stops for issues including missing taillights, expired registration, failure to stop at stop signs, and an illegal right turn on red. In each case, officers issued written warnings.
Traffic enforcement continued on January 1 in Robesonia Borough, where officers documented several stops related primarily to registration and inspection violations. Speed timing was also conducted on South Church Street, where the highest recorded speed was 48 miles per hour. Police said the enforcement activity resulted in a combination of written and verbal warnings, with no arrests reported.
On January 2, officers conducted a focused enforcement detail in South Heidelberg Township in response to a Crimewatch request for increased patrols. Traffic checks were conducted at several intersections, including Crestview Drive and Longview Drive, as well as along Penn Avenue and Krick Lane. Police reported that no moving traffic violations were observed during that deployment.
The final enforcement detail during the reporting period took place on the night of January 3 along Penn Avenue in Wernersville Borough. Over a two-hour period, officers initiated seven traffic stops, issuing six verbal warnings and one traffic citation. Violations addressed included equipment issues, move-over law compliance, and other moving violations.
Police said high-visibility traffic enforcement details are scheduled to continue in the coming weeks and throughout the remainder of 2026 as part of the department’s ongoing traffic safety efforts.
