Discovery Federal Credit Union is in the middle of a truly Cool & Kind summer, and it’s not just the free ice cream and family fun that’s making a difference. Through its seasonal community engagement campaign, Discovery FCU is collecting essential items for Friend, Inc. Community Services, a nonprofit based in Kutztown that supports families in need across northeastern Berks County.
So far, the summer has been full of connection and celebration. Events like hot dog days, ice cream giveaways, and Plinko games have brought members and neighbors together at Discovery FCU’s branch at 2744 Century Blvd. in Wyomissing. But at the heart of it all is kindness, and the credit union’s drive to give back to the community in meaningful ways.
Throughout the summer, Discovery FCU is hosting a donation drive as part of its Kind Raffle series. Community members are encouraged to bring in unexpired non-perishable food items, personal care products, pet food, or monetary donations of $5 or more. Each donation enters participants into a monthly raffle for a chance to win a $100 gift card.
“The Cool & Kind Summer is our way of bringing people together and giving back,” said Abby Showalter, Marketing and Community Impact Manager. “We’re proud to support Friend, Inc. and the incredible work they do for local families. Every item donated is a small act of kindness that adds up to real impact.”
With two events left—Hot Dogs and Prizes on Friday, August 15, and another Free Ice Cream Day on Friday, August 22—the credit union hopes to keep the momentum going and end the summer with a strong show of community support.
Donations can be dropped off at the Discovery FCU branch during regular business hours. Full details about the Cool & Kind Summer and raffle rules are available at discoveryfcu.org/cool-and-kind-summer.
