The Reading Science Center will be bursting with energy on October 18th as the organization will unveil its newest exhibit, “Energy in a Box,” created with the efforts of dozens of employees and the generous resources of East Penn Manufacturing Co. This hands-on exhibit shows how battery plates work together to power engines, while encouraging visitors to think about recycling and sustainability.
“The lights and sounds of this exhibit make it extremely appealing to our young audience, but the adults who accompany them are fascinated by it too!” remarked Executive Director, Ralia Vardaxis.
Hands-on learning is at the heart of science education, and is central to the mission of the Reading Science Center. By creating opportunities for children and families to experiment, test ideas, and physically interact with scientific concepts, exhibits like Energy in a Box make science both accessible and memorable. Through play and exploration, these moments plant the seeds of imagination that can grow into future careers in science and technology.
The official unveiling celebration will take place on October 18th at 11:00am. Admission to the Reading Science Center will be free to the public all day from 10:00am to 4:00pm (last entry at 3pm).
“We’re honored to support the Reading Science Center in their mission to inspire young minds and strengthen the future of our community,” said Christy Weeber, President of East Penn Manufacturing. “‘Energy in a Box’ is a wonderful example of how collaboration can bring science, sustainability, and creativity together.”
East Penn President Christy Weeber will also join Reading Science Center Board President, Jim Cinelli, for the official unveiling and ribbon cutting.
Founder, Jim Cinelli offered, “This exhibit by East Penn Manufacturing is the latest in several built for us by local industries that shows the relationship between science and manufacturing, healthcare and engineering. This is exactly what I had envisioned when I established the Reading Science Center.”
The day will include family-friendly science activities such as spooky experiments and battery-building challenges.
