Seniors from the Brandywine Heights Area School District took part in a hands-on luncheon at Kutztown University on Friday, aimed at preparing them for life after high school.
The Senior Skillset Luncheon was a collaborative effort between Kutztown University and First Citizens Community Bank. The event focused on providing students with practical tools and confidence as they prepare to transition into college, careers, or military service.
During the luncheon, students received guidance on professional etiquette and communication from Jenelle Henry, Assistant Director at KU’s Career Development Center. Her presentation covered first impressions, introductions, conversation skills, and dining etiquette in a supportive, interactive environment.
Following the meal, Jami Theiller from First Citizens Community Bank led a session on financial literacy, offering insights into essential money management concepts for young adults.
“This experience is about more than just listening to a presentation,” said Gina Oberto-Weller, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. “It’s about giving students the chance to practice those skills in real time, with support.”
The event reflected Brandywine Heights’ ongoing mission to bring real-world learning into the classroom experience, helping students build skills they can use well beyond graduation.
The district expressed appreciation to its many partners for making the event possible, including Kutztown University Career Services, Facilities, Events, and Food Services; First Citizens Community Bank; Brandywine Heights Area School Board Members Michael Wagaman and Elizabeth Huhn; the Berks Business Education Coalition and Executive Director Terri Hill; as well as ESS, Krise Transportation, and Gallagher Insurance.
