A Homestead Holiday returns to Daniel Boone Homestead on Dec. 7

The Daniel Boone Homestead will host its annual “A Homestead Holiday” on Sunday, December 7, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., offering visitors the chance to experience Christmas traditions as they were celebrated nearly 300 years ago.

The event will highlight both English and Pennsylvania German holiday customs through demonstrations, guided tours, and seasonal activities. The historic Boone House will be decorated for the season, where volunteers will prepare a traditional Christmas meal over the hearth and discuss English holiday customs. Visitors can also explore the English and German parlors, decorated to reflect the styles of the eighteenth century.

Guests will be able to tour the Blacksmith Shop, Homestead Barn, and the Bertolet Log House, the latter offering a look at Pennsylvania German architecture and tradition. Throughout the grounds, the Homestead Carolers will perform holiday music.

Children’s activities will include crafts and a Christmas scavenger hunt through the historic area. Those who complete the hunt will receive a holiday treat bag. Santa Claus will be on site for photos, and the Belsnickel—an eighteenth-century Pennsylvania German Christmas figure—will make an appearance during the afternoon.

Complimentary hot chocolate and hot wassail will be available. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for youth ages 6 to 17. Children 5 and under, as well as Daniel Boone Homestead Associates members, are admitted free. Pets and smoking are not permitted.
