Berks History Center invites community to celebrate Founder’s Day open house

Berks History Center (BHC), originally established in 1869 as the Historical Society of Berks County, is excited to welcome the community to its Founder’s Day Open House on Saturday, August 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 940 Centre Avenue, Reading, PA. This FREE family-friendly event is open to all ages and offers a unique opportunity to explore Berks County’s rich and diverse history.

Guests will enjoy free admission to both the Historical Society Museum and the Henry Janssen Library, where engaging exhibits and archival treasures bring local stories and heritage to life. Throughout the museum, knowledgeable staff and historians will be on hand to answer questions and offer insights into Berks County’s vibrant past.

The event will also feature interactive activities for children and families, including crafts, scavenger hunts, and live demonstrations — designed to make history both educational and fun. Light refreshments will be available throughout the day.

“Founder’s Day is a celebration of our roots and a way to thank the community for supporting the preservation and appreciation of Berks County’s history,” said Frederick Sheeler, Board President. “We are excited to offer a day that’s both meaningful and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.”
