Food facility is not removing dead pests from control devices: Restaurant Inspections, February 6, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On January 29, 2026, KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot, located at 1665 State Hill Road, Unit 295, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violations: The floor / wall juncture at the mop sink is not coved and closed to 1/32 inch. Employee restroom in the back kitchen area does not have a self-closing door.

On January 31, 2026, Laureldale Nursing & Rehabilitation, located at 2125 Elizabeth Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Frozen juice cups observed thawing at room temperature in the kitchen, which is not an approved thawing method. Corrected on inspection. The can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected on inspection.

On February 2, 2026, Subway #54868, located at 15100 Kutztown Road, Suite 2, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in clean dish storage area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Corrected. Plastic bin holding assorted lids was observed with excessive debris in the bottom. Corrected.

On February 2, 2026, Subway #53230, located at 850 Golden Drive, Suite 7, Blandon, was inspected and found with the following violation: Refrigerated ready-to-eat time/temperature control for safety food repackaged by the food facility, was being datemarked with a sell by, use by or discard by date that was beyond the manufacturer’s original date. Five containers of 7oz. chocolate milk with a best by date of 1/31/26 were observed in the self-service reach in cooler. Corrected, removed from cooler.

On February 2, 2026, Julie’s Country Cafe, located at 924 West Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in-freezer, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Food employees observed in the cookline area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.

On February 2, 2026, Bally Family Diner, located at 1605 PA-100, Barto, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed rodent dropping along the back wall of the downstairs area, indicating a potential rodent presence in the facility. Food facility is not removing dead or trapped pests from control devices frequently, as evidenced by observed dead mouse in the downstairs storage area. Food in the the walk-in-coolers and walk-in-freezer stored open with no covering.

On February 3, 2026, Spectators Bar & Grille, located at 45 Old Route 22, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Raw shelled eggs stored above other foods in the walk-in cooler. Corrected. The handwash sink in the bar area was blocked by a strainer and not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.

On February 3, 2026, Redner’s Quick Stop #25, located at 3401 Pricetown Road, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Tomato sauce was held at 95 °F, in the food warmer in the prep area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected.

On February 3, 2026, New China King Restaurant, located at 168 West Main Street, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Facility is using cardboard boxes to hold pre fried foods. Cardboard is not an NSF approved storage bin for foods. Please replace with NSF containers. Food facility is re-using to go containers as a utensil, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Corrected and replaced with a scoop.

On February 3, 2026, El Puente Mexican Food Store, located at 431 North 6th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Raw beef in the walk-in freezer area stored open with no covering.

On February 4, 2026, Ninos Pizza, located at 515 Richmond Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food in the walk-in refrigerator area stored open with no covering. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the refrigerator, is not being date marked.

On February 5, 2026, Redner’s Fresh Market #77, located at 1149 Berkshire Boulevard, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Small bottles of juice in the front display area are not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement, net weight, distributed by statement and/or nutritional facts. Corrected immediately. Fresh squeezed orange juice bottles in the front area do not have the proper consumer advisory warning on the label for an unpasteurized juice. Corrected immediately.

On February 5, 2026, Raceway Kempton, located at 2403B Route 143, Kempton, was inspected and found with the following violation: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the reach in refrigerator in the deli area, and the walk-in cooler are not being date marked. Observed equipment, in the deli area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Please make a cleaning checklist to ensure these items are being cleaned regularly to avoid build up.

On February 5, 2026, Manatawny Creek Winery & Brewery, located at 227 Levengood Road, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violation: Toilet rooms do not have a self-closing door.

On February 5, 2026, Lancaster Custom Meats, LLC, located at 10 South Summit Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Prepackaged canned meat is not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement, net weight, distributed by statement and/or nutritional facts. Corrected.

On February 5, 2026, Kempton Hotel, located at 9910 Kistler Valley Road, Kempton, was inspected and found with the following violation: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 10 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Corrected.

On February 5, 2026, Fresh Breakfast – Lunch, located at 614 Penn Avenue, West Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Some lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the kitchen area.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in West Reading, Grocery Outlet in Muhlenberg, Craft 2700 @ Freymoyer’s in Reading, Chick-fil-A 5th Street Highway in Temple, Wagner’s Quality Fuels in New Berlinville, New York Bagelry in West Lawn, Giant Food #6273 in Reading, Fleetwood Area SD Andrew Maier Elementary in Blandon, Bee Energized LLC in Reading, Heart & Hearth Deli & Smokehouse on Main in Kutztown, Wilson SD Southern Junior High in Sinking Spring, Wilson SD Cornwall Terrace Elementary in inking Spring, Sheetz #289 in Reading, Papa Johns Pizza in Reading, Glick’s Greenhouse in Oley, Black Sheep Tavern in Sinking Spring, Sweet Things Candies in Shillington, Hotel Stony Run in Kempton, and Heidelberg Family Restaurant Inc. in Robesonia.
