The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is warning Berks County consumers to immediately discard raw milk from Sunshine Dairy after routine testing confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The milk, sold under the Sunshine Dairy brand between August 5 and August 15, 2025, was distributed in gallon plastic containers directly from the farm at 9400 Old Route 22 in Bethel Township, Berks County, and through several retail outlets. Local sales included Swatty Creek Farms, 7725 Lancaster Avenue in Myerstown, Berks County.
Additional sales took place at Shady Breeze Farm-Corn Crib in Lebanon County and The Farm Store in Schuylkill County.
According to the Department of Agriculture, no illnesses have been reported at this time. However, health officials advise that anyone who consumed the milk and later experiences symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhea should contact a physician. Pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are most at risk for serious illness.
Listeriosis in pregnant women can lead to miscarriage, premature delivery, serious infections in newborns, or stillbirth.
