Reading families will have the opportunity to pick up free school supplies and more at the 4th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway, hosted by Mayor Eddie Morán in partnership with State Representative Manny Guzman.
The event will take place Friday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the courtyard on the 600 block of Penn Street. Supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while they last.
In addition to school supplies, local barbers and hairstylists will offer complimentary back-to-school haircuts. Families can also connect with community organizations providing information about local and state resources.
Free parking will be available at the 6th and Cherry Street lot from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., courtesy of the Reading Parking Authority.
“This giveaway is something I’m proud to lead every year, and I’m grateful to partner once again with Rep. Guzman to make it possible,” Morán said. “It’s about coming together to support our kids and their families—making sure they have what they need to start the school year off right. When we show up for them like this, it sends a powerful message: that this city believes in their future.”
Guzman said the event continues to grow each year, making a meaningful impact on local families. “It’s one of the most gratifying events on my calendar because it gives us the chance to support families and help students start the school year with confidence,” he said. “This event is more than just a giveaway—it’s a true community celebration where we come together to uplift and empower one another.”
The event is open to all families in Reading.
