Mosquito Control Spraying Scheduled in Reading September 3

Reading residents are advised that the Berks County West Nile Virus Program will conduct a truck-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control operation in the city on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The spraying will begin around 7:15 p.m. and target several neighborhoods, starting at City Park. Areas scheduled for treatment include Bear Park, Laurel Street Park, Goggleworks Gardens, Charles Evans Cemetery, and the intersection of 11th and Union streets. Both residential and recreational spaces will be included in the operation.

County officials said the treatment is necessary after detecting high populations of nuisance mosquitoes and species capable of transmitting West Nile virus in these areas.

The application will be carried out by the Berks County Conservation District using a licensed truck-mounted ULV sprayer. The product, Aqua Duet, will be applied at a rate of less than one ounce per acre. According to officials, the treatment is designed to provide quick knockdown and effective control of adult mosquitoes.

Residents in the spray zones are encouraged to remain indoors during the operation.

Weather conditions or unexpected events could delay or cancel the spraying. If necessary, the rain date is set for Thursday, September 4, 2025.
