Pedestrian killed in Route 222 crash near Dries Road identified as Reading woman

A Reading woman was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck by two vehicles while crossing Route 222, according to the Northern Berks Regional Police Department.

Police said the crash occurred around 4:55 a.m. on November 4 in the area of State Route 222 and Dries Road. Responding officers determined that the pedestrian, identified by the Berks County Coroner’s Office as Maria Zavala-Tinoco, 40, had died from her injuries at the scene.

Investigators said Zavala-Tinoco was attempting to cross Route 222 when she was hit first by a tractor-trailer and then by a second northbound vehicle. Both vehicles were traveling in the northbound lanes at the time of the crash.

Route 222 was closed for several hours Tuesday morning as crash reconstruction teams investigated the scene.

Police said the incident remains under investigation and no additional details are being released at this time.
