The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On October 1, 2025, Tommyboy’s Pizza & Cafe, located at 313 West Main Street, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Wall in the dish area, is made of tile board, and is not durable, smooth, non-porous, non-absorbent. Wall is observed peeling and with organic growth. Please repair to make this smooth, non-porous and non-absorbent.
On October 1, 2025, Santurce Deli Grocery, located at 952 Penn Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the cooler, is not being date marked. Observed cardboard being utilized as a floor covering. The handwashing sink was leaking from the piping underneath. Cooked food was held at 122 °F, in the * area, rather than 135°F or above as required. No signage above the sink stating EMPLOYEES MUST WASH HANDS. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the prep area. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area.
On October 1, 2025, San Antonio Grocery, located at 900 North 11th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Recommended more often pesticide for noticeable sighting of insects.
On October 1, 2025, Regal Buffet, located at 3252 North 5th Street Highway, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ceiling tiles missing above the ice machine area and need replacement. Internal screw in ice machine interior panel is rusting and needs replacement.
On October 1, 2025, Navas La Terraza, located at 1600 Elizabeth Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Grease trap needs to be emptied before reopening of the restaurant.
On October 1, 2025, Crab Crazy, located at 5614 Allentown Pike, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On October 2, 2025, Weis Market #184, located at 61 King’s Plaza, Oley, was inspected and found with the following violation: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the Continental bain marie unit in the deli area. Cheese was held at 47* °F, in the Continental bain marie in the deli area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected by moving product to a different refrigeration unit. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking at the wall-mounted faucet under the 3-compartment sink in the bakery area. One of the sliding doors on the ice machine in the seafood department is cracked/damaged.
On October 2, 2025, Tully’s at PSU Berks (Perkins Building), located at 2080 Tulpehocken Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Scoops being stored directly on top of the ice machine in the kitchen area. Corrected. Consumer advisory not available for the sushi products being sold in the store area. Corrected.
On October 3, 2025, Sunset Mexican Ice Cream, located at 733 Lancaster Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ice in chest freezer was not separated from frozen fruits, prepackaged cooked shrimp in same freezer with no barrier between.
On October 3, 2025, Met-Ed / A FirstEnergy Company, located at 2800 Centre Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Empty salad bar requires temperature adjustment or drain plug to contain ice for proper cooling. Ceiling tile not in proper position in dish room allowing an opening for dust contamination on clean items. Corrected on inspection.
On October 6, 2025, Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill #7552, located at 2723 North Meridian Boulevard, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: There is a build-up of dirt and debris on the floor in the side room, some areas of the kitchen, and behind the bar. The interior of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have some residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed loose dust/dirt on ceiling vents and ceiling tiles throughout the kitchen and storage areas. Ground under the outside grease handling unit has an accumulation of dirt/debris/grease. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking at multiple faucets in the kitchen area. Some floor tiles are damaged, and grout is deteriorated in several areas of the kitchen. This allows water and/or food debris to accumulate in these areas.
On October 6, 2025, Pricetown Sunoco, located at 3123 Pricetown Road, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Four half gallons of low-fat milk observed for sale on shelf with an expiration date of October 2, 2025. Corrected, removed from shelf.
On October 6, 2025, Dunkin’ Donuts, located at 1 Cheltenham Drive, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – hot water handle for the handwash sink in the back area is broken. Food facility has an original certificate posted, but the location is not conspicuous for public viewing. Coving tiles are cracked at the wall between the front and back areas of the facility. Floor in the front area, where the ice cream freezers were removed, is damaged/missing tiles and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Grout between the tiles in the drink preparation area is deteriorated. Observed standing water between the tiles. Door located in the back area of the food facility is rusted/deteriorated at the bottom.
On October 6, 2025, Chick-fil-A #01384, located at 2707 North Meridian Boulevard, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Door gasket on the small refrigerator located between the Taylor ice cream units is not sealing properly at the top corner. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink near the back door. Corrected.
On October 6, 2025, Aramark – KU Student Union & Library, located at 15200 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Facility was observed with excessive fruit fly activity in the dish room. Manager has called pest control.
On October 6, 2025, Al’s Diamond Cabaret, located at 1810 North 5th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food in the refrigerator area stored open with no covering. Walls and floors around air fryer need to be cleaned and maintained clean. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the refrigerator, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Soda gun holster drain line extends into ice used for consumer beverages. Buildup of scum in ice machine. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the kitchen area.
On October 7, 2025, Sun Valley Acres MFF3 T-XFY2108, located at 529 Woleber Road, Myerstown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Two rubber spatulas were observed chipped and peeling and were not smooth, easily cleanable and/or resistant to pitting, cracking or scratching. Corrected.
On October 7, 2025, Dtodo Unpoco Restaurant & Bakery, located at 702 North 8th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area. No signage above the handwash sink in prep area.
On October 7, 2025, C & R Grocery, located at 601 North 9th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed a cat evidence, indicating the presence of a live animal on the premise of the food facility. Business in need of frequent cleaning and removal of cat for it smelled like litter box.
On October 7, 2025, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, located at 2733 Papermill Road, Suite 208, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking at the handwash sink faucet in the dishwashing area. The grout around the tiles in the mop sink is deteriorated, which is allowing standing water to accumulate, and one of the tiles is damaged.
On October 7, 2025, 7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee, located at 3582 Penn Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food Employee observed eating a donut in the production area. Corrected. Food contact surface of the plastic ice bin is observed chipped and is not smooth, easily cleanable and/or resistant to pitting, cracking or scratching. This needs to be replaced as plastic pieces can break off and contaminate ice. Food Employee observed eating a donut and then proceeded to make a beverage and hands were not washed before making the drink.
On October 8, 2025, Little Sicily Italian Restaurant, located at 100 Love Road, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, is not being date marked. Observed multiple foods stored directly on the floor in walk-in freezer and dry storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Observed a buildup of old food debris on the floor of the walk-in freezer.
On October 8, 2025, Dorada Restaurant & Bar LLC, located at 201 West Lancaster Avenue, Shillington, was inspected and found with the following violation: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Observed butter stored open on top of a refrigerator at ambient temperature and cooked bacon stored on shelf above 3-bay sink at ambient temperature. Multiple foods, a refrigerated ready to eat time/temperature control for safety food, in the walk-in coolers and refrigerators, was not compliant with datemarking by being labeled with a discard or use by date of no more than 7 days, and requires discarding. Multiple foods in the walk-in coolers and refrigerators are stored open with no covering. Several raw animal foods were stored above ready to eat foods in the refrigerator on the cookline and in the small walk-in cooler. Corrected. Raw or partially cooked ready to eat fish not adequately frozen to destroy parasites. Food was held at 43.8°F, in the refrigerator by the kitchen entrance area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Food facility is not removing dead or trapped pests from control devices frequently, as evidenced by observed old / decaying dry storage area. Observed food stored directly on the floor in small walk-in area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Food facility is reusing, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article. Observed multiple broken and cracked plastic containers used for storing food. Observed an apparent mold build up on the fan grates in the large walk-in cooler. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Mops are not being hung to air dry. A working container of sanitizer was stored above or on the same shelf with food, equipment, and/or single service articles in the prep area. Corrected.
On October 9, 2025, Sazon Latino, located at 1122 Elm Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Pork stew food was held at 114 °F, in the hot holding area area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Hand soap was not available at the handwash sink in the kitchen area.
