The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On December 1, 2025, Redner’s Market #93, located at 5400 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed 8 quarts of milk offered for sale beyond the sell-by dates (11/28 and 11/30). Corrected. The handwash sink in the produce prep room was blocked by boxes and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the meat room. Corrected.
On December 1, 2025, Barrel & Ale, located at 961 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed the can opener in the prep area was dirty and needs a good cleaning. Observed the cookline area of the food facility is extremely dirty and in need of cleaning due to the large amount of grease build-up. Observed the women’s toilet room does not have a self-closing door.
On December 2, 2025, Dunkin Donuts, located at 800 Crossing Boulevard, Elverson, was inspected and found with the following violations: Roof is leaking water in back dry storage area and is in need of repair. Observed fly activity in the front service area. Firm has a pest control program in place.
On December 4, 2025, Sandstone Acres, located at 67 Bowmansville Road, Mohnton, was inspected and found with the following violation: Prepackaged unpasteurized juice being used or offered for sale by the food facility. Firm is selling canned apple cider from an unapproved source. Corrected by removing from sale.
On December 4, 2025, Logan’s Roadhouse, located at 65 Wilderness Trail, Hamburg, was inspected and found with the following violations: Floor/grout in the dish, cookline, dry storage area is made of tile and grout and is cracked / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Grout is missing in several places and needs to be repaired. The floor / wall juncture outside the walk-in cooler area is not coved and closed to 1/32 inch. Tile is broken and needs to be repaired or replaced. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the cookline area. Corrected. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the cookline area. Corrected. Ceiling tiles surround vents in the kitchen area of the food facility are observed with excessive dust build up, and in need of cleaning. Three spray bottle working containers in the dining room and bar area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On December 4, 2025, D Karina Deli & Grocery, located at 341 South 11th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Frozen Food in the deep freezer area stored open with no covering. Cooked food, which was cooled, was not reheated to 165°F within two hours, for hot holding. Cooked food was held at 80°F, in the steam table area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the freezer, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.
On December 4, 2025, Antonio’s Trattoria, located at 1636 West Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the refrigerators and Bain Maries throughout the facility, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerators and Bain Maries, is not being date marked. Food facility is reusing 5 gallon pickle bucket to store salt, which is intended to be a single-use article.
On December 5, 2025, Sue & Cho’s Produce, located at 10 South Summit Avenue in the Shillington Farmers Market, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility is preparing and packaging orange and grapefruit juice without a HACCP plan or any means of providing for a 5 log reduction of pathogens, or alternatively providing a consumer advisory or warning label on the juice. Juice prepared and sold on-site, a refrigerated ready to eat time/temperature control for safety food, in the cold storage area, was not compliant with datemarking by being labeled with a discard or use by date of no more than 7 days. Corrected. Observed the condensing unit in the walk-in cooler to have buildup of dirt, dust and apparent mold and in need of cleaning. Observed the condensing unit to be draining into a bucket that is overflowing and needs to be emptied at an increased rate.
On December 5, 2025, Blue Marsh Restaurant & Pizzeria, located at 5027 Bernville Road, Bernville, was inspected and found with the following violation: Drinking water quality obtained from a non-public water system does not meet DEP water quality standards. Boil water advisory was given to restaurant person in charge by DEP at today’s inspection. DEP also spoke to the owner by phone regarding boil water notice until issue with water system is repaired.
On December 7, 2025, La Eterna Primavera Ice Cream Shop, located at 3045 North 5th Street Highway, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility has lost its certified supervisory employee over 3 months ago and has not replaced the certified employee as required. Awaiting certification for posting of certificate.
On December 8, 2025, Sheetz #247, located at 14350 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Five quarts of Galliker’s chocolate milk were observed for sale in the customer facing reach in refrigerator with an expiration date of 11/25/2025. Corrected. Removed from shelf.
On December 8, 2025, Chef David’s Pizza & More, located at 500 Penn Avenue, West Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed wet wiping cloths on the sandwich bain marie not being stored in sanitizer solution. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Unisex employee restroom is not provided with a covered waste receptacle. Floor in the back area near the mixer is cracked/damaged and is no longer a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Corrected. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Corrected.
On December 9, 2025, Mount Penn Family Restaurant, located at 3108 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Faculty was listed as out of compliance. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the dishwasher. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Interior of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
On December 9, 2025, Michael’s Restaurant, located at 1211 West Benjamin Franklin Highway, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Multiple foods throughout the facility stored open with no covering. Corrected. Multiple food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Observed wooden utensils stored in water on hot hold line that are deteriorating and not in good condition. Corrected. Observed cabbages stored directly on the floor in walk-in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Mashed potatoes and sauce, which was cooled, was not reheated to 165°F within two hours, for hot holding. Corrected. Pasta Sauce food was held at 102°F, in the hot hold table area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in prep area, stored uncovered or not inverted. Corrected. Women’s toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins. Ceiling tile, in the kitchen area above the walk-in cooler, is peeling, and is not durable, smooth, non-porous, non-absorbent. Floor throughout the facility is made of tile and is cracked and broken or missing and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Wall in the kitchen area above the walk-in cooler has an opening that is covered with cardboard and tape which is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry.
On December 9, 2025, Little Nicky’s Pizza, located at 31 Douglassville Shopping Center, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food employees observed in prep area, wearing watch on hands or arms. Corrected. Food employees observed in kitchen area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. On December 10, 2025, Ozgood’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, located at 4 Lincoln Road, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food Employee observed changing tasks that may have contaminated hands without a proper handwash and glove change in-between. Corrected.
On December 10, 2025, Grube Dairy Market Stand, located in Leesport Market Building 3, Leesport, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed four quarts of heavy cream offered for sale beyond the sell-by date of 12/6/25. Corrected.
On December 10, 2025, Gino’s Café, located at 400 West Broad Street, Unit D, Shillington, was inspected and found with the following violations: Facility was listed as out of compliance. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the back prep area refrigerator, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located throughout the facility, is not being date marked. Corrected. Soda wand in bar area, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Observed multiple foods stored directly on the floor in walk-in area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the bar area. On December 10, 2025, Exxon Mart, located at 308 Wyomissing Avenue, Mohnton, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the deli case, is not being date marked. Corrected. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Observed the fan grates on the walk-in condenser unit to have an accumulation of apparent mold. Observed a buildup of old food residue on the non-food contact surface of the cappuccino machine. On December 10, 2025, Dollar Tree #1649, located at 440 Kenhorst Plaza, Unit 7, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed the interior of the canned soda cooler at register 3 to have buildup of apparent mold on the shelves. Observed boxes of food stored directly on the floor in walk-in freezer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
