The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On January 21, 2026, Victor’s Cafe, located at 2012 Penn Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Hood vent filters were observed with excessive dust build up and in need of cleaning.

On January 21, 2026, Taipei Chinese Kitchen Inc., located at 2104 Van Reed Road, West Lawn, was inspected and found with the following violation: I observed 4 trays of frozen chicken observed thawing at room temperature on the counter by prep sink, which is not an approved thawing method. Corrected.

On January 21, 2026, Redner’s Quick Shoppe #12, located at 24 East Main Street, Bally, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed the condenser unit of the walk-in-freezer has a large build-up of ice on it, which can be a cross contamination issue. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. The fryer area of the food facility is extremely dirty, and in need of cleaning as evidenced by the build-up of grease and debris.

On January 21, 2026, Austin’s Restaurant, located at 1101 Snyder Road, West Lawn, was inspected and found with the following violations: Two fryer baskets observed with broken wires. Corrected. Raw beef was observed stored above raw seafood in the walk-in cooler. Please follow hierarchy standards in the walk-in cooler for storing raw animal products. Soda nozzle and soda nozzle holder in the outside bar area was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed an employee putting two trays of food on top of a garbage can. Corrected on site. Drain and floor in the bar area was observed with excessive water and slime build up. Please increase the frequency of cleaning in this area to avoid build and keep dry. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in clean dish storage area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Corrected.

On January 22, 2026, Olive Garden #1525, located at 1700 Crossing Drive, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed a case of single-service, single-use articles in the dry storage room stored directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor.

On January 22, 2026, Isaacs Craft Kitchen & Brewery, located at 94 Commerce Drive, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in dish room area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Food employees observed in kitchen and serving area, not wearing beard covers.

On January 22, 2026, Heritage of Green Hills, located at 200 Tranquility Lane, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Mustard sauce, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the walk-in refrigerator, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7-day use or sell by date and requires discarding. COS by discarding. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Top of pizza oven has accumulated dust and in need of cleaning, fan in dish room with static dust and ceiling tiles in kitchen area with dead insects needs cleaning.

On January 22, 2026, Blue Mountain Academy, located at 2363 Mountain Road, Hamburg, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or quat test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Can opener blade and a spatula were observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On January 23, 2026, Toss of the Town, located at 110 East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.

On January 23, 2026, Talk’s Tavern, located at 1428 East Ben Franklin Highway, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violations: Hot sauce containers, in the prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Non-food contact surface of the ice machine has an apparent slime build up. Observed raw beef stored above RTE foods in the back refrigerator. Corrected. Multiple foods, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the Bain Marie and refrigerator areas, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7-day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the Bain Marie and refrigerators, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Wall, in the snack bar back area, is made of cider block, and is not durable, smooth, non-porous, non-absorbent. Firm removed a wall and has not covered the blocks with a material that is an easily cleanable surface.

On January 23, 2026, Subway #11418, located at 1193 Berkshire Boulevard, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Mop sink has damaged areas that are no longer smooth, easily cleanable.

On January 23, 2026, Stopper’s, located at 6421 Perkiomen Avenue, Birdsboro, was inspected and found with the following violation: Raw eggs were stored above ready to eat foods in the walk-in cooler. Corrected. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperature of equipment are not available or readily accessible in two of the refrigerators. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired (April 2024) and is no longer valid.

On January 23, 2026, Smart Mart, located at 6824 Boyertown Pike, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required. Observed deeply scored cutting board in the food prep area not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed multiple foods stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected.

On January 23, 2026, Selena’s Diner, located at 242 West Main Street, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Floor / wall / ceiling in the dish area is made of tile and linoleum and is cracked / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface.

On January 23, 2026, Schell’s Dairy Swirl, located at 4625 North 5th Street Highway, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Mops are not being hung to air dry.

On January 23, 2026, Schell’s, located at 4625 North 5th Street Highway, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed frozen food sitting at room temperature until no longer frozen to the touch, which is not proper slacking procedure. Observed box of tools stored above canned food.

On January 23, 2026, La Union Mini Market, located at 1004 Hampden Boulevard, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Dividers not provided to prevent cross contamination of raw meat. Observed food products stored directly on the floor in refrigerated area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the display cooler, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in the handwash sink, indicating uses other than handwashing.

On January 23, 2026, Hispanic Center of Reading, located at 25 North 2nd Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the refrigerator, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.

On January 23, 2026, Goodwill Fire Company, located at 537 Chestnut Street, Bally, was inspected and found with the following violation: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in-cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Observed the ventilation hood, walls, floors, and the sides of the grill and the fryer with a large build-up of grease.

On January 23, 2026, Fresh Breakfast – Lunch, located at 614 Penn Avenue, West Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: The facility was listed as out of compliance. The hot water used for sanitizing in the mechanical warewashing machine still did not reach 165°F for a stationary rack machine. Facility did not have the 3-compartment sink set up for sanitizing. Some lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the kitchen area.

On January 23, 2026, Fork and Ale, Inc., located at 1281 Main Street, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violation: Multiple foods in the Bain Marie area stored open with no covering. Corrected. Multiple foods, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the kitchen area, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7-day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Corrected.

On January 23, 2026, Bruno’s Bakery, located at 740 Noble Street, Kutztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.

On January 28, 2026, Bally Family Diner, located at 1605 PA-100, Barto, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed observed the ventilation hood, grill, and fryer, in the cookline area, with encrusted grease and soil accumulation.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: West Wyomissing Fire Co. #1 in West Lawn, The Children’s Home/NEAG Kitchen in Reading, Sam’s Wyomissing Bistro in Wyomissing, NEAG Kitchen in Reading, McDonald’s #24028 in Wyomissing, Gertrude Hawk Chocolates in Wyomissing, Drover’s Grind LLC in Centerport, Bob’s Discount Furniture in Wyomissing, Staples #0123 in Wyomissing, Four Points Sunoco in Womelsdorf, Wawa #8155 in Hereford, Starbucks Coffee Co. in Reading, Emily Mini Market in Reading, Dollar Tree #11522 in Douglassville, Dietrich’s Country Meats in Kutztown, Shartlesville Dollar General #19767 in Shartlesville, and Dollar General Store #13403 in Robesonia.
