Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents/insect activity: Restaurant Inspections, July 31, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On July 24, 2025, Zola’s Pizzeria, located at 3130 Pricetown Road, Suite J, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed cases of cheese stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the dish area. Food facility does not have available chlorine sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate chlorine sanitizer concentration. The handwash sink in the dish area was observed being used as a food preparation sink as evidenced by a colander/strainer in the sink. Corrected. Wall and ceiling vent at pizza dressing table is observed with excessive dust and flour debris and in need of cleaning.

On July 24, 2025, Willy’s Ice Cream, located at 3700 Pricetown Road, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility has an employee that has taken food safety training program; however, the food safety program was not an ANSI/CFP accredited Certified Food Manager program.

On July 24, 2025, Margherita’s Pizzeria, located at 3600 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, was inspected and found with the following violation: Meatballs, sauce, and soup were observed in hot hold and were all held below 115°F, in the cookline area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Food was taken from refrigerator and placed in hot hold. Explained that food needs to be heated on the stove then placed in hot hold. Hot hold will not heat up food to proper temperature. Corrected. Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. The interior ice machine kick plate, a food contact surface, was observed to have black organic matter and was not clean to sight and touch. The floor / wall juncture at cookline area is not coved and closed to 1/32 inch. Coving looks like it fell off, this needs to be replaced. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Floor tile in the dish area is cracked / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. This needs to be repaired or replaced.

On July 24, 2025, Dunkin’ Donuts #357079, located at 3124 Pricetown Road, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in clean dish storage area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Corrected.

On July 25, 2025, Wyomissing Fitness & Training, located at 950 Woodland Road, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On July 25, 2025, Stony Creek Athletic Association, located at 165 Antietam Road, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Scoop being stored in the drink ice at the bar with handle touching the ice. Corrected. Working container (spray bottle) in the bar area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected. Plastic single-use tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched when dispensed. Corrected.

On July 25, 2025, Panda Inn, located at 330 West Weis Street, Topton, was inspected and found with the following violation: One fryer basket was observed with broken wires. Please repair or replace. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk in, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On July 25, 2025, Nonno Alby’s Wood Oven Pizza, located at 701 Penn Avenue, West Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Burgers are served raw or undercooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. Owner will reprint the current menus. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink.

On July 25, 2025, Mertztown Great Valu Market, located at 953 State Street, Mertztown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Ceiling tile around fan guard vents in meat prep room were observed with excessive dust build up.

On July 25, 2025, Dosie Dough Wyomissing, located at 1405 Penn Avenue, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Loose rubber door gasket observed on the refrigerator in the basement.

On July 25, 2025, Dollar Tree #05954, located at 2550 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed food items stored directly on the floor in the walk-ins in the back area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.

On July 28, 2025, Sabor Tropical Restaurant, located at 1019 North 9th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food Employee observed changing tasks that may have contaminated hands without a proper handwash in-between. A Food Employee was observed washing their hands at the 3 compartment sink rather than the designated handwash sink. Prepped Food in the refrigerator area stored open with no covering. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the refrigerator, is not being date marked. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. The hand wash sink was being used to hold dishes inside of sink. The handwash sink in the food prep area was blocked by refrigerator and not accessible at all times for employee use. Pest Control program was recommended for the facility. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents/insect activity in areas, but facility does not have a pest control program.

On July 28, 2025, Morgantown Coffee House, located at 4997 Twin Valley Road, Suite 2, Elverson, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employees observed in the kitchen area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Observed a buildup of dust on the fan cover of the cooling unit in the walk-in cooler.

On July 28, 2025, La Eterna Primavera Ice Cream Shop, located at 3045 North 5th Street Highway, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Certificate not posted. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

On July 28, 2025, Dunkin’ Donuts #356064, located at 60 Farmers Drive, Fleetwood, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employees observed in service area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected. Employee lunch box was observed in a reach in cooler that had beverages for consumers that was stored on top of beverage containers and not stored in an employee designated storage area as required. Corrected.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Liberty at Dryville in Mertztown, Twilight Acres Creamery & Bakery in Womelsdorf, Odyssey Farm and Ranch in Kutztown, Hive Cafe in Kutztown, Hampton Inn & Suits Kutztown, Blue Marsh Lake Concession in Leesport, Bag Lady’s Bakery (Market Stand) in Kutztown, Auntie Anne’s in Wyomissing, Sandstone Acres in Mohnton, Redner’s Quick Stop #25, Crystal Cave Refreshment in Kutztown, Burger King #4750 in Kutztown, Bern Township Lions Pool in Leesport.
