The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On February 19, 2026, Tavern at Centre and Main, located at 5 Centre Avenue, Topton, was inspected and found with the following violations: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required.
On February 19, 2026, Speedway #06781, located at 1028 Ben Franklin Highway, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ice dispenser chute on soda machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Food in the Walk-In Cooler was held at 45.4°F rather than 41°F or below as required. Taquitos were held at 122* °F, in the hot hold roller area, rather than 135°F or above as required. -COS Non-food contact surfaces on soda machine not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed one gallon of whole milk on shelf for sale past sell-by-date. -COS
On February 19, 2026, Redner’s Warehouse Market #87, located at 1179 Ben Franklin Highway, Douglassville, was inspected and found with the following violations: Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed accumulation of old food residue in the base of the egg refrigerated case and a buildup of apparent slime in the leafy greens case. Food facility is using or offering for sale, drinks containing THC, an unapproved additive. Exterior cover of the meat bandsaw is cracked. Cake decorating ingredient storage containers, in the bakery area, are not labeled with the common name of the food. -COS Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. -COS Observed two gallons of chocolate milk and 6 containers of 2% milk on shelf for sale past sell-by-date. -COS
On February 19, 2026, R&J Deli and Grocery, located at 501 S. 12th Street, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercial Food in the deli area stored open with no covering. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the deli, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents/insect activity in surrounding areas, but facility does not have a pest control program.
On February 19, 2026, Paradise by the Slice, located at 69 Penn Avenue, Wernersville, was inspected and found with the following violation: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Corrected empty bottle was replaced. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the meat and cheese refrigerator downstairs. Corrected. Wall in the downstairs dry storage area, has a hole, or is broken and in need of repair, this is a repeat violation from last year.
On February 19, 2026, Nia’s Pizzeria, located at 41 King’s Plaza, Oley, was inspected and found with the following violation: Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the front area. Corrected.
On February 19, 2026, Italian Delite, located at 113 E Main St., Birdsboro, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed clean plastic cups/glasses at the soda machine, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Corrected. Food employee personal use medicine stored on a shelf above one of the bain marie units in the kitchen area. Corrected.
On February 20, 2026, Redner’s Warehouse Market #42, located at 4870 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food contact surface of two rubber spatulas in the bakery were observed cracked and were not smooth and easily cleanable. Corrected. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of sliced deli meat and cheese grab and go cooler equipment is not available or readily accessible. Corrected. Hood vent filters were observed with grease and dust build up and in need of cleaning. Please increase the frequency of cleaning for this area to avoid build up. Floor drain in front of the proofer in the bakery was observed with excessive debris build up and in need of cleaning. Please increase the frequency of cleaning for this area to avoid build up.
On 2/20/2026, Redner’s Quick Shoppe #52, located at 4800 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food contact surface of blue ice bucket is not smooth, easily cleanable and is cracked and needs to be replaced. Work order was submitted to replace this item during this inspection.
On 2/20/2026, Mikura Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar, located at 840 N Park Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Loose rubber door gaskets, repaired with tape, observed on the 3-door bain marie unit at the cooking line. Observed standing water in the bottom portion of the 3-door bain marie unit at the cooking line. There is an accumulation of old food debris on the floor under shelving in the walk-in cooler. The stove unit at the cooking line has an accumulation of dirt and grease. Employees started cleaning this equipment during this inspection. The handwash sink in the kitchen area was blocked by dishes and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.
On 2/20/2026, Lil’s Bakery, located at 845 B Woodland Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Some of the prepackaged baked goods do not have ingredient labels. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink.
On 2/20/2026, Family Garden, located at 1701 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19602, was inspected and found with the following violation: Prepped Food in the bain marie area stored open with no covering. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the bain marie, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.
On 2/20/2026, El Primo Grocery and Deli LLC, located at 1356 Cotton St, Reading, PA 19602, was inspected and found with the following violation: A food employee was observed cutting RTE food without gloves. Observed storage of food without division guards to prevent cross contamination. Frozen Food in the freezer area stored open with no covering. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the deli counter, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.
On 2/20/2026, China Moon Restaurant, located at 4888 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violation: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the reach-in cooler and walk-in cooler, is not being date marked. Several raw animal foods were stored above ready to eat foods in the walk-in cooler. Corrected, food was moved to proper hierarchy. Observed single-service, single-use articles stored in the cookline area face up and were not in the original protective package. Corrected, items were turned upside down.
On 2/21/2026, Little Caesar’s, located at 4701 N Fifth St Hwy, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed equipment in walk-in cooler, with an accumulation of food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Silver storage racks and plastic shelves require attention. Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the walk-in refrigerator, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened or use by date. Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply sinks at the time of this inspection. Water heater setting reads 120 degrees F., and water temperature measured at 3-compartment sink x 2 did not exceed 98.5 degrees F. PIC states a maintenance work order will be submitted. Food employees observed in food prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Corrected on inspection. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Walk-in cooler handle and area that hands touch to open and close require attention. Mop is not being hung to air dry. There was no hook to hang it. Ceiling tile missing in the back room, adjacent to the water heater and requires replacement.
On 2/21/2026, Carvel Store #2172, located at 3320 N 5th St, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employee observed in ice cream dipping area, not wearing proper hair restraint, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Corrected on inspection. Food dispensing utensil in bulk ice cream topping bins observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food.
