The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On July 8, 2025, Screpesi’s Sandwich Shop, located at 500 Lancaster Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the refrigerator, is not being date marked.
On July 8, 2025, Mertztown Great Valu Market, located at 953 State St, Mertztown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Observed a large build-up of ice in the walk-in-freezer that has covered food items, making it unsafe for public consumption. Raw chicken in the walk-in-cooler area between the bakery and deli is stored open with no covering. Food ingredient storage containers, in the bakery area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Observed cardboard being used underneath the pressure cooker to collect spilled grease. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required throughout the deli, bakery, meat, and produce areas. Observed the walls, floor, stove, and pressure cooker had a large build-up of grease, and needs to be cleaned. Observed a large amount of ice build-up of ice in the walk-in-freezer, indicating a potential issue with the seals around the walk-in-freezer door not working properly. Ceiling tiles missing in the prep areas, and need to be replaced.
On July 8, 2025, Funny Farm Apiaries, located at 17 Oak Rd, Mertztown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food Facility Person in Charge not able to provide documentation that the frozen chicken products were processed at an approved facility as the packages did not have any labeling. The person-in-charge removed the chicken from the facility.
On July 9, 2025, Rooted & Grounded Cafe, located at 1400 Lancaster Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Corrected. Observed a buildup of food residue on the interior surfaces of the ice machine. Corrected.
On July 9, 2025, Hiester Lanes, located at 801 Hiester Ln, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Under the counter needs to be cleaned on a daily basis. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents/insect activity behind the counter area.
On July 9, 2025, Heidelberg Country Club, located at PO Box 309, Bernville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Hood vent filters were observed with excessive grease build up and in need of cleaning.
On July 9, 2025, Berks County Fair Food Stand TFS3, located at 1216 Hilltop Rd, Leesport, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Plastic tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched when dispensed. Corrected.
On July 10, 2025, Wyomissing Swimming Pool Snack Bar, located at Parkside Dr & Evans Ave, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: One of the stand fans being used in the front area has an accumulation of dust/dirt that could blow off onto food/food contact surfaces. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the front area. Corrected.
On July 10, 2025, Sunoco APlus Market #005040, located at 701 Philadelphia Ave, Kenhorst, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ingredient list not available for sandwiches made by facility. Specifically and ingredient list not available for the egg salad, chicken salad, pastelilos, and steak sandwiches produced by the facility. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On July 10, 2025, Simran Indian Cuisine, located at 163 W Main St, Kutztown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerators and Bain Marie, is not being date marked. The handwash sinks in the kitchen area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device.
On July 10, 2025, Rosa Grocery Store, located at 139 S 6th St, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Temperature measuring devices for ensuring proper temperatures in refrigerated / hot holding equipment, in x2 refrigerators not available. Manual warewashing hot water immersion compartment used for sanitizing is not reaching and holding 171°F.
On July 10, 2025, New Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant, located at 2727 Bernville Rd, Leesport, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed some food items stored uncovered in the upright freezer in the kitchen. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink.
On July 10, 2025, Liberty at Dryville, located at 110 Lyons Rd, Mertztown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Pickles and other food item were at 51°F in an ice bath, rather than 41°F or below as required. These items were moved to the walk-in-cooler. Wing Sauce held at * 54°F, in the kitchen refrigerator area, rather than 41°F or below as required. All items were removed from the refrigerator and moved to the walk-in-cooler. On July 10, 2025, Domino’s #9090, located at 15100 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in clean dish storage area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Corrected. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Certificate needs to be posted. Two wet mops were observed not being hung to air dry. Corrected. Three spray bottles in prep area, used for storing chemicals and cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On July 10, 2025, Doc & Bubba’s, located at 4312 New Holland Road, Mohnton, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Multiple foods, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the walk-in cooler area, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7 day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Corrected. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed a buildup of apparent mold on the nonfood contact surfaces of the soda dispensing machine. Cleaned and sanitized utensils located in the kitchen area, are stored with food contact surfaces / food or lip area exposed to hand contact when retrieved by food employees. Corrected. On July 11, 2025, Wyomissing Sunoco, located at 3100 State Hill Road, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. There is an accumulation of dirt/debris on the floor under shelving in the back storage area. Two of the bowls in the 3-compartment sink have a significant amount of dried debris/residue. Women’s/unisex restroom is not provided with a covered waste receptacle.
On July 11, 2025, Hamburg Recreation Park Pool Concession, located at 2nd & Franklin Streets, Hamburg, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Supervisor observed in prep area, prepping pretzels, was not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. All employees must have proper hair restraints. Long hair needs to be restrained in a ponytail and secured above the shoulders.
On July 11, 2025, B2 Bistro & Bar, located at 701 Reading Avenue, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sinks (quaternary ammonia). Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking at the faucet for the 3-compartment sink in the small prep kitchen.
On July 12, 2025, Wendy’s Restaurant #19301, located at 3225 N 5th Street Highway, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed food prep under dusty ventilation ducts/ceiling tiles and subject to potential contamination. Bain marie foods – special sauce, tomatoes were held at 44.5°F, in the sandwich assembly area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Lower refrigerator section at 38.5°F. Exhaust hood above fry area has peeling /cracked paint and is not a smooth easily cleanable surface. This is a repeat violation. Cracking/peeling paint present on wall at food prep area. Both exhaust hoods observed with cracking/peeling paint above food prep areas.
On July 12, 2025, Turkey Hill Minit Market #62, located at 4801 N 5th Street, Temple, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Fan guards in walk-in refrigerator are dusty.
On July 13, 2025, Route 61 Diner, located at 3455 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food was held at 46.1°F, in the cook’s refrigerator, rather than 41°F or below as required. Can opener blade soiled. Corrected on inspection. Fan guards in walk-in refrigerator are dusty/soiled. Wall in walk-in refrigerator is soiled. Observed no chemical sanitizer being used on equipment and utensils after washing and rinsing them, and prior to use. Sink plug required for sanitizing sink. Food employee observed storing clean food equipment while wet, and not allowing time for draining and/or air-drying. Several pots stored directly on the floor in rear storage room. On July 14, 2025, Dunkin Donuts, located at 8448 Allentown Pike, Blandon, PA, was inspected and found with the following violation: Sanitizer in buckets was 0 ppm quat. Store is out of sanitizer. Corrected. Manager purchased bleach and now has chlorine test strips. Door to the outside, located by the ovens/ drive thru of the food facility is being propped open. Corrected.

On July 15, 2025, Chick-fil-A #01384, located at 2707 N Meridian Blvd in Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Outside waste handling unit is missing the drain plug. Outside grease handling unit and storage area was dirty and grease is running out of the enclosure area onto the adjacent road.
On July 15, 2025, Bally Family Diner, located at 1605 PA-100 in Barto, was inspected and found with the following violation: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. On July 15, 2025, Auntie Anne’s #PA166, located at 1665 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, was inspected and found with the following violation: Coving in the front area (under counter at the dry goods storage bins) is being repaired with duct tape. The deflector in the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch. A stand mixer is being stored in the employee restroom. Unisex employee restroom is not provided with a covered waste receptacle. Working container (spray bottle) at the mop sink, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical.
On July 15, 2025, Alebrije Mexican Restaurant, located at 3805 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the refrigeration unit next to the drink station in the kitchen. Corrected. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Manager called for service during this inspection. Facility will sanitize dishes in the 3-compartment sink until the dishwasher is sanitizing properly. There is an accumulation of grease and old food debris on the floor under the equipment at the cooking area. The floor tiles at the entrance to the walk-in freezer are damaged. This area is no longer smooth, easily cleanable. This situation is also causing a gap at the bottom of the freezer door. Working containers (spray bottles) in the 3-compartment sink and server areas, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. On July 16, 2025, Grind, located at 45 S Reading Avenue, Boyertown, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food in the walk-in-cooler and walk-in-freezer is being stored with no covering. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Fly glue tape located throughout the kitchen area with potential to contaminate food, equipment, and / or utensils. The wall, floors, grill, and fryer at the main cookline has observable grease/dirt like buildup.
On July 16, 2025, Bally Hotel, located at 660 Main Street, Bally, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed a large amount of grease build-up on the walls, floor, ventilation hood, fryer, and grill in the cookline area.
