Bridge repair work, paving operations: PennDOT upcoming roadwork December 12, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 5 announced several upcoming roadway maintenance projects scheduled to take place across Berks County beginning Monday, Dec. 15, with work expected to continue through the week. Motorists should anticipate daytime lane restrictions, possible delays, and changing traffic patterns in multiple municipalities.

In Reading and Cumru Township, bridge repair work is planned along U.S. Route 422 between Penn Street and Interstate 176. PennDOT maintenance forces will conduct daytime operations from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lane restrictions in place at various locations throughout the week. The project is scheduled to run from Dec. 15 through Dec. 19, weather permitting, and rain may cause delays.

In Richmond Township, brush cutting is scheduled on Crystal Ridge Road between Dunkels Church Road and Crystal Cave Road. Work will take place from Dec. 15 through Dec. 19 during daytime hours, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lane restrictions with flagging will be in effect, and drivers should expect delays while crews are working.

Brush cutting is also planned along Interstate 78 in Bethel Township, between the Lebanon County line and Exit 23 (Shartlesville). PennDOT maintenance forces will conduct the work from Dec. 15 through Dec. 18, with daytime lane restrictions in place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the work zone.

Additional brush cutting is scheduled for PA Route 645 in Bethel Township, between the Schuylkill County line and Pine Grove Road. This work is planned for Friday, Dec. 19, with daytime lane restrictions and flagging in place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers should expect delays during the operation.

In Greenwich Township, roadway sweeping is scheduled along PA Route 737, also known as Krumsville Road, between PA Route 143 and Kutz Mill Road. Crews will work at various locations from Dec. 15 through Dec. 19 during daytime hours, with lane restrictions and flagging in place. Motorists should anticipate delays and proceed with caution through the work area.

Paving operations are also planned along U.S. Route 222 in various locations between PA Route 61 and the Lancaster County line. PennDOT maintenance forces will perform the work from Dec. 15 through Dec. 19, with daytime lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will be active throughout the week, and drivers are advised to allow extra travel time.

PennDOT reminds motorists that all scheduled work is weather dependent and may be postponed or delayed due to rain or other unfavorable conditions. Drivers are urged to slow down, remain alert, and follow posted traffic control devices in all active work zones.
