The Amity Township Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that took place Wednesday morning on Route 422 westbound, just after North Monocacy Creek Road.
Emergency services and Fire Police were promptly dispatched to the accident around 10:45am, which was initially reported to involve multiple vehicles, with entrapment and injuries.
Police on-scene say a dump truck towing a wood chipper was traveling eastbound on 422 when it crossed into the westbound lanes, resulting in a collision with an SUV. A tractor trailer was also damaged in the accident.
The driver of the SUV, identified by authorities as 65-year-old Lawrence Urban, was pronounced dead by the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
422 westbound was closed for several hours while police investigated the incident.
