Overnight utility, bridge deck repair: PennDOT upcoming roadwork March 13, 2026

PennDOT District 5 has announced several upcoming road work projects across Berks County scheduled for the week of March 16. Motorists should expect lane restrictions, shoulder closures, and occasional traffic stops in several areas.

In Centre Township, crews will perform brush cutting along Tilden Road between Irish Creek Road and Boundary Road from March 16 through March 20. Work will take place weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with lane restrictions and flagging in place. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through the work zone. In Greenwich Township, maintenance work is scheduled on Dunkel’s Church Road between Crystal Ridge Road and Kohler Hill Road from March 16 through March 20. PennDOT maintenance forces will conduct the work between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day. Lane restrictions with flagging will be in effect, and drivers should expect delays while traveling through the area. Rain may cause delays.

PennDOT crews will also conduct brush cutting along Interstate 78 in Tilden Township between Exit 29 (PA 61) and Exit 23 (Shartlesville). Work is scheduled from March 16 through March 19 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Crews will be working along the shoulder, and motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work zone. Rain may cause delays.

An additional maintenance project is scheduled on Dunkel’s Church Road in Greenwich Township between Crystal Cave Road and Kohler Hill Road on March 20. Work will occur from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with lane restrictions and flagging expected. Drivers should anticipate delays and proceed with caution through the work zone. Rain may cause delays.

In Reading and Cumru Township, bridge repair work is planned along U.S. Route 422 between Penn Street and Interstate 176 from March 16 through March 19. Crews will work between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with lane restrictions in both directions at various locations throughout the week. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use caution while traveling through the work zone. Rain may cause delays.

According to the Berks County Department of Emergency Services, several additional construction and maintenance projects are scheduled across Berks County during the week of March 16.

Interstate 176 – Long-term construction
Long-term construction will continue on Interstate 176 at mile marker 4.6. The project includes a long-term shoulder closure in both directions that will remain in place 24 hours a day until the project is completed. Additional construction work may also require lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should use caution while traveling through the area.

Interstate 78 – Brush cutting
Brush cutting operations are scheduled along Interstate 78 between Exit 23 (Shartlesville) and Exit 29 (PA 61). Shoulder closures will be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from March 16 through March 19.

Interstate 78 – Overnight utility and construction work
Overhead utility work will take place along Interstate 78 between Exit 30 and Exit 35. Crews will conduct rolling roadblocks and traffic stops from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on March 16, March 17, March 18, and March 20. Additional construction work near Exit 35 will require lane closures overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Interstate 78 – Median barrier repair
Median barrier repairs are scheduled along Interstate 78 between Exit 23 and Exit 29 on March 19. Lane closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

U.S. Route 422 – Bridge deck repair
Bridge deck repair work will take place along U.S. Route 422 between Penn Avenue and Interstate 176. Lane closures will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from March 16 through March 19.

PennDOT advises motorists to expect delays and to drive cautiously in work zones. All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be delayed by rain.
