A pedestrian was hospitalized Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on West Penn Avenue, according to the South Heidelberg Police Department.
Police said the incident happened around 1:06 p.m. in the 100 block of West Penn Avenue, when a westbound vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic lanes and onto the eastbound sidewalk, hitting a pedestrian.
Western Berks Fire/EMS and police officers provided immediate care at the scene. The pedestrian, who suffered major injuries, was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. The Pennsylvania State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting with the investigation.
