Shoulder work and road widening: PennDOT upcoming roadwork July 26, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has released its latest schedule of upcoming road work in Berks County, with multiple projects set to begin the week of July 28. Drivers are advised to prepare for potential delays and use caution in active work zones.

In Greenwich Township, nighttime lane restrictions will be in place along Interstate 78 between Exit 35 (PA 143) and Exit 45 (PA 863) for construction work. The project, carried out by a PennDOT contractor, will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. beginning July 28 and is expected to conclude on August 1. This work is not expected to be delayed by rain.

In Upper Tulpehocken Township, PennDOT maintenance crews will be performing shoulder work and road widening along Old Route 22 between Berne Road and Bernville Road. The work will occur during the day from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on July 28 and 29. A lane restriction with flagging will be in effect, and rain may cause delays.

Centre Township will also see daytime shoulder widening on Berne Road between Irish Creek Road and Salem Church Road. This project is scheduled for July 30 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a lane restriction and flaggers guiding traffic. Weather may impact the schedule.

In Penn Township, shoulder widening work will take place on Irish Creek Road between Berne Road and Shartlesville Road. The daytime project will run from July 31 through August 1 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and may be delayed due to rain. Lane restrictions with flagging will be in place.

Muhlenberg Township will see daytime lane restrictions on Mt. Laurel Road between Hay Road and Kutztown Road from July 28 to August 1. Work will be conducted from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and may be affected by inclement weather. Motorists should expect delays.

In Amity Township, PennDOT crews will work along Old Airport Road between Benjamin Franklin Highway Eastbound and Old Powder Mill Road. The work is scheduled for July 28 to August 1, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A lane restriction with flagging will be in place, and rain could delay the schedule.

Finally, a construction project will affect Route 422 in both Amity and Douglass townships between Monocacy Creek Road/Limekiln Road and Old Airport Road. Daytime lane restrictions are expected on both eastbound and westbound lanes for barrier and guide rail work. The work will take place July 29 and 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Delays are expected, and drivers are urged to proceed with caution.
