PennDOT Upcoming Roadwork Project in Berks 1/26/21

PennDOT maintenance forces and private contractors are consistently working on roads in Berks County. To help our readers avoid travel delays, here are a few of the most notable roadwork projects scheduled next week.

PennDOT contractors will be performing bridge repair on PA 562/Boyertown Road West in Exeter Township between Loder Road and Ritters/Walnut Road.

Westbound PA 562 will be closed and detoured for the rehabilitation of the bridge over Owatin Creek. Westbound traffic will be detoured on Limekiln Road, Weavertown/Daniel Boone Road, US 422 and Business Route 422/Perkiomen Avenue. Eastbound PA 562 will remain open.

Work on the PA 562 bridge over Owatin Creek includes deck repairs, substructure repairs, bearing repairs, joint repairs/joint sealing, scour countermeasures and stream channel repairs. The concrete T-beam bridge is 27 feet long, 38.5 feet wide and was built in 1926 and reconstructed in 1964. This section of PA 562 has an average daily traffic volume of 5,212 vehicles.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, PA is the general contractor rehabilitating the PA 562 bridge as part of a $3,782,460 contract to rehabilitate 14 state bridges in Berks County. Work will begin January 25 and is estimated to be complete May 28, 2021.

MetEd crews will be performing utility work on Washington Street in the City of reading between North 3rd Street and North 2nd Street. The right lane will be restricted for MetEd utility work. Expect delays and please use caution driving through the work zone from January 25-26, 7am to 3pm.

PennDOT Maintenance Forces will work on brush cutting on Antietam Road between Magnolia Lane and Pricetown Road in Alsace Township from January 28 to 29 from 7am to 3pm. A lane restriction with flagging is expected.

PennDOT Maintenance Forces will be crack sealing on Perkiomen Avenue between Chestnut Street and 23rd Street in the City of Reading. A single lane restriction with flagging January 25-27 from 7am to 3pm.

PennDOT Bridge Inspection Forces will be working on Business Route 422 between Shillington Road and State Hill Road in Wyomissing. Various lane restrictions on Business Route 422 and Ramps. This is a moving operation between the hours of 9am to 3pm on January 27th.
