Explore the rich history of Whiskey in Berks County

Berks History Center has announced a captivating event that will take attendees on a journey through the storied past of whiskey production and culture in Berks County. This educational and entertaining event promises an enriching experience for history enthusiasts and whiskey aficionados alike, and is set to take place on July 20 and 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. inside BHC Museum’s Terrence E. Connor Auditorium, 940 Centre Ave., Reading, Pa., 19601.

The event, titled “A Spirited People: Whiskey Distilling in Berks County,” will feature an engaging presentation from local historian, Bradley Smith, and guided drink tastings courtesy of Eight Oaks Farm Distillery from New Tripoli, PA.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to learn about the early distilleries that dotted the landscape of Berks County, the impact of Prohibition, and the resurgence of craft distilling in recent years. Smith will explore how whiskey has influenced the region’s culture and economy from the 1700s to present day.

In addition to the educational aspect, attendees will enjoy sampling a variety of locally-crafted spirits, including summer-inspired and classic drinks from Eight Oaks Distillery. The event aims to deepen appreciation for the artistry and tradition of whiskey production while celebrating the vibrant community of Berks County.
