Two new officers sworn in to West Reading Police Department

The West Reading Police Department has officially welcomed its two newest officers following their graduation from the Reading Police Academy.

Gabriel Kolasa and Emily Zaharia were sworn in on June 27 by Mayor Samantha Kaag, just hours after completing the rigorous academy program. Both are now beginning their next phase of training as they enter the field to serve the West Reading community.

Graduating from the police academy is a major milestone, requiring months of intensive physical and academic training. The department praised Officers Kolasa and Zaharia for their discipline, grit, and dedication, qualities that have been evident since the start of their training.

“We’re proud to officially welcome them to the WRPD family,” the department said in a statement.

As they begin their field training, residents may see the officers around town. The department encourages the public to greet them and offer support as they transition into their new roles.
