Box truck driver injured in crash on Route 222 southbound in Spring Township

A box truck driver was seriously injured Friday morning following a crash on Route 222 southbound in Spring Township.

According to the Township of Spring Police Department, the accident occurred on September 12, 2025, at approximately 11:54 a.m., about one-third of a mile south of Broadcasting Road. Investigators said a box truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer that had slowed in the right lane due to traffic congestion.

The driver of the box truck was heavily entrapped in the vehicle and required extrication by fire personnel before being transported to Tower Health – Reading Hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Police said the crash remains under investigation with assistance from Bern Township, Muhlenberg Township, Cumru Township, and Wyomissing Borough police departments.
