A head-on collision on Bernville Road (Route 183) Saturday night left one man dead and sent two others to the hospital, according to the Pennsylvania State Police – Reading.
The crash occurred around 8:10 p.m. on the 5000 block of Bernville Road in Penn Township. Investigators say a black Subaru sedan, driven by 47-year-old Mac Iwinski of Bernville, was traveling northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a white Nissan Sentra head-on. The impact caused both vehicles to spin 180 degrees before coming to rest in the southbound lane.
Iwinski was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Nissan, a 22-year-old man from Schwenksville, and his passenger, 22-year-old from Reading, were both transported by Life Lion to Reading Hospital with suspected injuries. The severity of their conditions has not been released.
Police noted that Iwinski’s vehicle appeared to be operating without proper headlights for the low-light conditions at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit for the stretch of roadway is 45 mph, and the road is properly marked with double yellow lines.
The crash remains under investigation.
