Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 13, when 13 different small businesses on Penn Avenue in West Reading will unite to host “Galentine’s Day on the Avenue” from 11 AM-5 PM.
“Galentine’s Day”, traditionally celebrated on February 13, was a term originally coined by the popular TV Show “Parks and Recreation”.
According to nationtoday.com, “the holiday is all about declaring love and affection to the girls who make up our support system,” and Allison Shannon, owner of Allison Clothing Company on Penn Avenue, is all about celebrating the females in our midst that empower the community. “Galentine’s Day on the Avenue is all about a ‘girls just want to have fun’ [vibe],” she said.
Shannon shared that each attendant of the event will receive a passport that will be stamped once they visit each participating shop, which will be marked by the pink balloons tied outside.
“All shops are having their own sales, giveaways, and different snacks and treats,” she said. Once each passport has been completely stamped, they can be turned in for a chance to win a special grand prize, that contains gift items from each participating small business (the grand prize drawing will occur on February 18).
“[All of the shops on Penn Avenue] are trying to get back on our feet [after Covid],” said Shannon. “Anything to get people out on The Avenue is great!”
