Attempted Robbery on Thun Trail Leaves One Person Shot, Police say

Cumru Township Police are investigating an attempted robbery on the Thun Trail Tuesday afternoon that end with a person being shot in the abdomen.

Initially dispatched at 1:43pm, multiple Police departments converged on the Cumru Township section of trail, behind Service Castor Corporation, which boarders West Reading and the City of Reading.

According to Police, the victim, a 42 year old man, was riding his bike Southwest on the trail when approached by two people. The two attempted to take the victims bike and other items, saying “give me your stuff”.

The victim told the two he didn’t have anything. One of the two then attempted to take the victim’s bike. Both the victim and the assailant grabbed the victim’s bike. During the struggle, the victim was shot in the lower abdomen.

Police look for evidence on the Schuylkill River Trail Bridge.

The two assailants were last scene heading in the direction of the City. Police describe the two as black males of unknown age, approximately 5’8” to 6’0” tall, one male with a dark complexion, and one male with a lighter complexion, wearing dark clothing, which included a hooded sweatshirt or jacket, and face mask.

Police said the victim was conscious and able to speak to them prior to being transported to the hospital.
