ARL receives $4000 grant from ASPCA to support pet adoption event on October 25

Funding will assist with expenses related to animal care and adoption.

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County (ARL) has been awarded a $4000 grant from the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to support the Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event on October 25, including expenses associated with preparing animals for adoption. The grant will help the Animal Rescue League of Berks County fund services such as veterinary care, vaccines, enrichment, training, and socialization needed to prepare animals for adoption, which are crucial to ARL operations.

“The Animal Rescue League is grateful to receive a $4000 grant from the ASPCA to support the Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event, sponsoring the adoption of all animals at our shelter on Saturday, October 25” said Stacey Cole, Chief Development Officer at the ARL. “These grant funds not only allow us to continue providing compassionate care of our animals but helps families find their new best friend while enjoying a festive atmosphere.”

Funds from the ASPCA grant will support the work and supplies needed to prepare animals for adoption, including food, medicine, vaccines, temperament assessments and microchipping. Since 1952, the ARL has helped thousands of animals each year and became a no-kill shelter in 2018.

“Each adoption has a story behind it, and Chimney Cricket is a great example of that,” said Cole. In August, the Department of Animal Protection at the ARL helped rescue a cat that had escaped onto a roof, tumbled 14 feet down a sealed chimney, left trapped with no escape. “After being assessed by the medical team at the shelter, Chimney Cricket was miraculously cleared with no injuries and we are happy to announce that he has been happily adopted now for over a month.”

Since 2001, the ASPCA has provided more than $200 million in grant funding to over 4,000 organizations and programs nationwide dedicated to helping vulnerable and victimized animals. Grants are just one example of how the ASPCA is helping animals and communities in need, with funds supporting a variety of programs ranging from increasing pet adoptions to helping communities build strong programs to rescue, shelter, transport, and support animals during natural disasters, improving access to veterinary care, and advancing research that either directly or systemically benefits animals.
