Visitors to Blue Marsh Lake can expect several service reductions and operational changes during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, as paving, infrastructure repairs, and staffing shortages continue to impact the popular recreation area.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Philadelphia District, announced that ongoing construction projects will limit access and amenities at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area, including the swim beach and boat launches. These changes are expected to remain in effect throughout the 2025 recreation season.
For Memorial Day weekend, parking at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area will be limited. Once the parking area reaches full capacity, it will be closed to additional visitors for the remainder of the day. Additionally, bathroom and shower facilities will be unavailable due to delayed sewer system repairs. Portable toilets will be placed at various locations to accommodate guests.
Beginning Saturday, May 17, new operational hours and service reductions will go into effect. The Dry Brooks Day Use Area will be open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with the swim beach closing at 5:00 PM. No new entries will be permitted after 5:00 PM. Picnic pavilions will no longer be reservable and will instead be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Boat launch operations at Dry Brooks and State Hill will also see changes. On weekends and holidays, both boat launches will close once they reach capacity and will reopen after 5:00 PM. The picnic area at the Dry Brooks Boat Launch will be closed for the season, though the ramp will remain open for launching boats.
Additional impacts include delayed or reduced maintenance of trails and facilities, as well as a scaling back of outreach and interpretive programs.
Park officials are urging visitors to follow all posted restrictions, closures, and barriers to help ensure safe operations and continued access throughout the summer.
“We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work through these challenges and continue to prioritize public safety and responsible stewardship,” the USACE stated.
