Man hospitalized after stabbing, nephew sought in Cumru Township attempted homicide

Cumru Township Police are investigating what they are describing as a violent domestic situation that left a 61-year-old man hospitalized Monday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. in the 1700 block of Acorn Drive. When officers arrived minutes later, they found the victim alert and conscious, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The victim told officers he had been stabbed by his nephew, identified as 40-year-old James Rice. Investigators initially said they were not aware of any prior issues between the two and described the incident as sudden and unexpected.

Police said Rice fled the scene in a 2004 dark blue Volvo XC70 station wagon bearing Pennsylvania registration LRD6371.

The victim was transported to Reading Hospital – Tower Health for treatment of his injuries. His current condition has not been released.
