Reading firefighters discover shooting victim after alarm call on South 5th Street

The Reading Fire Department was dispatched to 417 South 5th Street on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, around noon, for a reported automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival, a Deputy Fire Chief initially found nothing evident but soon reported that the incident was in fact a shooting and requested Reading Police to the scene.

A male victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators determined the building’s fire alarm had been manually pulled by the victim in an attempt to get help. The victim was transported by medics to Reading Hospital for treatment.

According to Reading Police, the victim’s injuries are considered non-life threatening. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
