The Spring Township Police Department is warning residents of a scam involving the sale of fake jewelry and watches in local parking lots.
In the scam alert, Police cited one example where a male in a gray minivan with a Texas license plate, along with a female and several small children, approached a victim while pumping gas.
The male told the victim that he desperately needed cash to get his family back to Texas, offering to sell the victim some gold jewelry and a high-end watch to raise the money.
According to Police, after completing the deal, the victim found out from a reputable jeweler that the jewelry was not real gold and the watch was a counterfeit.
The jeweler advised that nearly a dozen customers had been in touch with him and told very similar stories.
Spring Township Police are reminding the public that if a deal or offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
