Two injured in shooting on Muhlenberg Street, police say

The Reading Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two people injured early Sunday morning on the 1700 block of Muhlenberg Street.

According to police, officers were dispatched around 6:18 a.m. on April 12 after receiving multiple calls reporting individuals discharging firearms in the area. When officers arrived, they located multiple spent shell casings and several vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.

Police said information gathered at the scene indicates the incident may have originated inside an unpermitted “after hours club” located on the same block.

While officers were still on scene, a 21-year-old male arrived at Reading Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the upper torso. Authorities later received a separate call involving an intoxicated 31-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. Investigators believe both individuals were injured during the same incident on Muhlenberg Street.

Officers subsequently identified the unpermitted after-hours club, where police believe the altercation began.
