Pedestrian critically injured after being struck by Fleetwood police vehicle

A pedestrian was critically injured early Monday after being struck by a Fleetwood Police Department patrol vehicle on West Main Street, according to the Northern Berks Regional Police Department.

Police said the incident occurred around 12:09 a.m. on April 13, when officers were dispatched to assist Fleetwood police with a pedestrian accident involving one of their patrol units in the 0 block of West Main Street.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 45-year-old man had exited an establishment and entered the westbound lane of travel. At the same time, a Fleetwood police officer was traveling westbound on West Main Street when the patrol vehicle struck the pedestrian. Authorities said the passenger-side front of the vehicle made contact with the man, pushing him several feet toward the sidewalk.

The pedestrian was conscious and speaking with first responders at the scene before being transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The Pennsylvania State Police are assisting with accident reconstruction. The incident remains under investigation by the Northern Berks Regional Police Department.
