Crisis situation in Exeter Township ends in death, police say

Exeter Township police have released details following a crisis response Sunday afternoon that resulted in a fatality.

On Sunday, January 25, 2026, at approximately 2:40 PM, Exeter Township Police were dispatched to Longview Drive for a report of a male subject armed with a weapon and threatening self-harm.

Exeter Township Police officers responded and coordinated with Berks County mental health personnel and trained crisis negotiators. Responders attempted to de-escalate the situation and provide assistance to the individual.

Shortly after police and negotiators arrived on scene, the male, whose identity is being withheld at this time, inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers and EMS immediately attempted to render medical aid. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, and there is no threat to the public.
